[blows off dust] so, uh hi
Nov. 5th, 2022 11:41 amHere we are again, on the eve of yet another fandom collapse because it was determined 30 years ago that rich people needed to own the internet and we are yet again reaping what was sown.
I have determined that I’m not moving until the fandoms i care about decide where they’re going. I’m here and on Pillowfort and I’m trying to decide how much i trust nudity-but-not-porn from tumblr. I’m not going to Mastodon for sure, and Cohost will depend on if they get an actual facts lawyer to look at their ToS and fix the worst of it. Because yeah, the reading I’m seeing of them on twitter is the worst read possible, but I’m also old and know perfectly well that as soon as they start making money, they’ll start enforcing the very worst parts of that ToS.
And that’s assuming that the credit card companies don’t ruin anything as well. Because MasterCard/Visa get to be the arbiters of what’s allowed on the internet now.
In the meantime, Dreamwidth. And trying to figure out where to host photos that isn’t fucking google. Fuck, maybe i do just need to start my own website, just for the storage and non-google email address. (Because it wasn’t fun enough changing emails the last time, now i need to change it everywhere)
i… miss web rings and yahoo groups and fucking geocities. There was so much broken about them, and yet *they* never destroyed fandom.
