Try Not to Hate the Light has been written twice. The second, published version, is trimmed down (yeah, go ahead and laugh. I get it) and honestly? Less angsty than the original version. Because it came time to write WWX's murder fieldtrip through Lanling and... I just didn't wanna. Like, on my outline (laugh here too), it's even labeled as demon!WWX redux and everything but... the world is a mess, I've been working on this universe for 3 years, and I don't wanna.

So! Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji get a million kids to take care of while Jiang Cheng is panicking and being angry about it. Like he does.

The kids:

Lingzhi: 8 years old; she/her; Liwen's big sister
Zeming: 5 years old, he/him
Zikong: 5 years old, he/him
Jian: 4 years old, she/her
Ruihao: 4 years old, he/him. Lan Zhan's shadow
Liwen: 3 years old, he/him; Lingzhi's little brother
Cai: 1(ish) year old, he/him.

Zeming and Zikong are considered twins. I don't know if they're actually twins or if they just act like they are. Writing is fun. Some of them are more fleshed out than others, because that's how my brain gives me OCs, but they're kids. They barely know who they are at these ages.

Other cultivators who come into play:

Ouyang Xuanjie: 15 years old, she/her. Technically, she's a rogue cultivator. Her mom was Ouyang-zongzhu's older, illegitimate, sister who left the sect when he took over. (Which makes her Zizhen's much older cousin, if the juniors came into this fic at all. Which they do not, except for a-Yuan) (She's also a baby lesbian, who falls madly in love with Shen Fei, but that ALSO does not come into this fic. Unfortunately.)
Lan Chuchu: she/her, married to Lan Ziyu. Lan Jingyi's other mom. Yes, he gets two. She's also, much less importantly, Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji's closest living relative aside from Lan Qiren and takes over as sect heir because the Lan elders are idiots. She's named for Chuchu from Legend of Fei, and no, i will not be taking questions regarding this choice at this time.

so... one of the hard parts about writing Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji's murder roadtrip through Yunmeng is that... it wasn't just the two of them on that roadtrip. This is 2 of the highest ranking members of the landed gentry, they go *no where* alone and especially not on months-long trips through occupied territory to find some swords and a missing person.
They have retainers, they have advisors, they have all sorts of people around them, all the fucking time. (They're also trained in politics from a very young age, because *that's how you train heirs to powerful seats*. Do you think, for instance, that Charles hasn't touched anything political before Elizabeth died? NO. And the British royal family doesn't even *do anything* besides be ~~a parasite on the citizens of their country~~ and a tourist trap.)
ANYWAY.
JC and LWJ needed people to go on their roadtrip with them, I needed people with a smidgeon of emotional intelligence besides JYL. So.. OCs. A lot of them, sorry. (Ok, there's 13 right now with evidence of a 14th, but she doesn't come into play until part 2, and she's not included below).
Meet them. (these are in the order they're in in my notes, which... is not a great organizational system, but you get what I have)

As I said in the fic, I did a decent amount of research and confirmed that these are names that actual people have used (or... i lifted them wholesale from other shows, i'm not sorry about that either), so name crimes are possible! but someone else did those name crimes first.
