i'm trying to get better about updating here AND having it not be all doom and gloom.
I say, having spent the last 4 days procrastinating on the update.

Thanksgiving was... Thanksgiving. It's not like it's a surprise that boomer parents are boomer parents. The day of was fine except Dad asking about "A/B/O Fraternity" and why was I wearing their shirt. He can google that himself while Sister-In-Law and I have a nice laugh about it (She got it, pretty sure my brother got it, no one else did. Which is about what I expected.) We did an excellent job on food, with no disasters or things ruined, which is... rare. We are, traditionally, one of those families that ends up in the ER needing stitches or burn care.

Luna-bit's annual vet visit was friday morning, because i still haven't transferred her paperwork to a vet local to med. She's 10, at this point, i don't see things changing unless she gets emergency vet visit hurt. Anyway, she's in good health, got her shots and she didn't get snippy with the vet or with me.

Then we went to the art museum for their Art Deco exhibit. I'd gone before, right after it opened, because I am indeed the sort of nerd that will drive 2 hours, go to the art museum, get BBQ, and then drive home and not mention to a single godsdamned soul that i'm going until after I'm home. Mostly because I wanted to see the Art Deco exhibit and a couple others that were closing soon. ANYWAY. Art Deco exhibit. It is a good exhibit, a bit short given the price tag, but whatever. Focused on the growing influence of mass produced goods through the inter-war period, with time spent on the Harlem Renaissance and jazz and influence of socialism on the art of the period.

See boomer parents. Not enough focus on architecture apparently, or whatever in the fuck white men were doing, too much focus on Black people and socialism. Mind... we're talking an *indoor* exhibit, making it kinda hard to have a lot of architecture on display, and uh... only maybe 15-20 pieces, all of them small, from 3 Black artists, including all three pieces that were explicitly about socialism. I mean, the Model T, Packard and... whatever the third car is, should have *also* been about socialism, but they were not. They were there as representatives of the newfound upward mobility and/or affordability of luxury goods. Even the Depression barely got mentioned in this thing.

but clearly, the art museum has an agenda to push. *the art museum* like that's not a bastion of 'do whatever the (rich, white) donors want and to hell with anything else.'

The visit pretty much went downhill from there. Butthurt parents that i went to see a movie with some friends-- a plan i told them about a month ago; insistence that the gov't overreacted to covid and are now overreacting to RSV; we have a responsibility to be nice to each other but not to protect each other from public health problems-- that should be personal responsibility. i have no idea if they're just not listening to themselves or if they don't see the disconnect.

[deep sigh]

Next up is Christmas, and we already have a menu planned, because i'm not giving my parents a chance to force my (vegan) sister make her own damn meal. Cheese and Butter are NOT the end all be all of cooking, jfc. I'm at a bit of a loss, because she also doesn't like mushrooms, but the answer to that is going ahead and using the terrible meat substitutes (which i don't like, but i will suck it the fuck up, because that's what you do for family meals, not 'refuse to make them a meal').

I should poke her about what she wants to eat the rest of the weekend.

right. deep breaths, this ended up being a lot bitchier than i meant for it to be, so I'm going to shove it behind a cut.

Ok. I won NaNo, which i never expected to happen, but the fic isn't done, which I did. Got a bit over 2 chapters left for story 1 in what is probably going to be a trilogy (at least a duology, i need to get some more planning done), which at the current rate will end up being 15-20k, totalling 70kish. Which, hey! that's short for me! [sob]. So December goal is finish NaNo project AND get 3 more chapters edited on BFF, which should take me through the first arc of BFF.

at no point are LWJ and WY boning in these massive things. sorry for anyone who was hoping for that. It isn't going to happen, requires a level of choreography that i can't easily visualize.
